Hello and welcome!
Yarn:
~Choose yarn that you would want to snuggle!
~While budget friendly yarn is ok, if it needs washing to be softer, please care for that on your end.
~Yarn weight is up to your discretion as long as it works with the pattern and size of blanket. I.e. super bulky yarn works better for larger blankets
~If your yarn has special washing instructions, please include those.
~Pattern is up to you! Please be aware that patterns with larger holes work better for the larger blankets. Hole size should be relative to the blanket size.
~Please do NOT send red, black, brown, sparkles.
~The parent requests tend to ask for "pink", "blue", etc; so, while variegated yarn is acceptable it is best to mix it with a solid color. If the blanket could be more than 50% of one color, then it's easier to match it to a request.
Fabric:
~Flannel tends to make the best gowns and diapers. Cotton can be used if it is not too see through. Cotton makes a great, thinner, liner for the diapers. Blankets can be mix and match material, i.e. minky on one side and flannel on the other
~Baby/nursery prints are nice, but not necessarily required. There are many good options that are not "baby", but please do NOT use prints that include religious symbols, sports logos, characters (Disney, Elmo, Bluey, etc), holiday themes, really odd themes (gnomes, pickles, leopard print, etc), and be very wary of wording as not all is appropriate to the use of the items.
~For clothing items: solids work great as they match with a greater variety of blankets, simple or "small" prints are also great options (stripes, dots, stars, etc). Light to medium shades are great, dark shades are ok to an extent, but please avoid all reds and blacks.
~For blankets: again, solids are a great option as they match more gown options. There is more room for fun and "larger scale" prints here.
Additional info:
~Blankets sizes have been divided up into small, medium, and large. All measurements are across the shortest side; the accompanying side can be whatever works for your pattern. Small 15-18 inches, medium 19-24, large 25-30. Rectangular blankets work best, squares are ok, but please send other shapes sparingly. 30x30 is the absolute largest I can accept.
~All blankets and clothing items should be soft and flexible. The parent request blankets are for snuggling when they need to hold something, and the bereavement items (all clothing and coordinating blankets) are used in the hospital on actual babies. Sewn blankets are best with no, or very thin, batting, and yarn blankets need to be able to stay "closed" when folded over. (This is especially important the smaller the size of the blanket.)
~Please do not send items that are used, stained, smell, covered in pet or human hair (please refer to the hair policy).
~For quality purposes: Make sure you know how to properly begin and end yarn blankets. (I, personally, don't like knots, but if you must then please also leave a long tail and weave in. I see SO many knots come undone and ruin blankets.) For crochet, be sure to check your starting tension to avoid the "trapezoid" look. If items need blocking to lay flat please care for that before sending.
~When in doubt, remember that these items will play a vital role in a bereaved parent's story. Is it soft enough? Cuddly enough? Clean enough? We will send the best we can, because THIS MATTERS.
